Choosing The Right Lunchbox For Your Child

Choosing the right lunchbox for your child can be a challenge with so many lunchboxes on the market these days. How do you know which one is right your child?

We are all mums here at Little Treehouse Lane and between us all we have 15 kids. That's a lot of lunches we pack! We are happy to share our recommendations and advice with you.

A good lunchbox is an investment and the right one for your child can make the whole process of school lunches much easier and free from stress!

Considering that we can pack up to 200 lunches a year for just one child, it makes sense to put a little thought into what will work best for your family.

Some things to consider when choosing a lunchbox:

  • do I want to buy ones that are durable and will last?
  • how old are my kids and what is their preference?
  • are they easy for my kids to open and use?
  • what do my kids like eating and how much do they eat?
  • is there a fridge at school or do I need to think about insulation?
  • how easy are they to clean, can they go in the dishwasher?
  • do I want lunchboxes made from safe materials?
  • what are the school policies around lunches?
  • can I get replacement parts if needed?
  • do I need something leak proof?

Our top lunchboxes (as recommended by mums):

"I love the Go Green lunchboxes for functionality, ease of use and longevity! My kids have used Go Green for nearly 6 years, in that time I've only had to replace 3 lids!
I have a lot of people ask how younger kids go opening them with the four latches and the dial, the simple answer is show them! Explain how it works and sit them at the table and show them how to open it, then let them try for themselves.
My youngest had her first GoGreen at 2.5yrs old, I intentionally did not show her how to use it as she wanted to carry it in her lap in the car and I wanted to avoid spillage! It took her a week and a half to figure it out completely all by herself and we didn't use it daily just when out and about." Nyomi, LTHL Team

"Go Green is our favourite. It's a huge lunch box and great for packing a variety of foods. Its nice and hardy, which is great for my kids who tend to be a little rough on their stuff." Cinnamon, LTHL Team

Little Lunchbox Co Stainless Steel Bento

"I also love Little Lunch Box Co! They are on the smaller side however they still hold quite a bit!

When my youngest hit kindy age last year, we had to pack two lunchboxes, one for main lunch and one for fruit stop.

She likes a range of finger foods so we used the Bento 5 for her main lunch and the Bento 2 for fruit stop. They are super easy to unlatch and close back up and don't take up heaps of space in the kindy fridge or her bag!

Utilizing the Little Lunch Box Co range also meant she could have cute matching prints on her lunchboxes which were appropriate for her age." Nyomi, LTHL Team
