How to Plan a Baby Shower

How to Plan a Baby Shower

Planning a baby shower is a wonderful way to celebrate an expecting mum!

Whether you're organising a small gathering at home or a larger event, here are our tips for how to plan a baby shower.

Start With the Basics

Before you do anything else, decide on a date, budget and guest list. Baby showers are often held during the third trimester, when mum is still comfortable enough to enjoy the celebration and hasn't had an early surprise!

Once you've chosen a date, create a guest list and decide whether the event will be a traditional women-only gathering or a family affair with everyone invited.

Choose a Venue

A baby shower can be held at home, in the backyard, in a local park, at a cafe or in an event space. Think  about your guest numbers, budget and the atmosphere you'd like to create.

Pick a Theme

While a theme isn't essential, it can be a lot of fun! Popular baby shower themes include Aussie animals, florals, teddy bears, enchanted garden, story book characters (like Winnie the Pooh or Peter Rabbit) and even just an elegant tea party.

If you're looking for inspiration, browse our shop before you start decorating. Nursery decor, soft toys and baby keepsakes can give you some inspiration. The mum-to-be may have a nursery theme in mind that you can help contribute to!

Send Invitations Early

Send out invitations four to six weeks before the event. Include the date, time, location, and RSVP details.

It's easy to make cute invitations in Canva to print out, or just create an event on social media and go digital.

Set Up a Gift Registry

A gift registry can be so useful for guests to choose things that are wanted and will be used. They also avoid mum getting six of one type of gift!

You can set up a Baby Shower Gift Registry with Little Treehouse Lane here.

Don't forget to add the registry details on the invitations!

Plan the Food and Drinks

Baby showers tend to be more casual, so finger foods or grazing boards are an easy, practical options. Consider a mix of sweet and savoury offerings, not forgetting any dietary requirements.

A beautifully styled food table can also become part of the decor. You can also keep your theme going with the food, drinks, serving platters and table decorations.

A delicious cake or cupcakes are always a good idea!

Set Up a Gift Table

One of the highlights of a baby shower is watching the mum-to-be unwrap the gorgeous baby gifts!  Setting up a dedicated gift table makes presents easy to display.

When choosing gifts, consider firstly what the mum-to-be has expressed a need for. You may want to consider organising a huge hamper from all of the guests.

We love doing gift baskets at Little Treehouse Lane! Ask our staff in our Mackay store or email us to enquire if shopping online. We can make you one to suit your budget and theme or you can choose the items and we can assemble it for you.

A gift card is also a practical idea so mum can shop for what she really wants.

Add Decorations and Personal Touches

Decorations don't need to be extravagant - consider balloons, fresh flowers and simple table styling.

Adding a few baby-themed touches such as soft toys, or children's books in the space can help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. These details also work beautifully in photographs and can later be gifted to the mum-to-be.

Include a Few Activities

Games are optional, but simple activities can help guests connect and have a bit of fun. Consider asking guests to write advice for the new mum, share wishes for the baby or predict the baby's arrival date and weight.

You could also create a baby book station where guests write messages for the baby to read in years to come. Pairing this with a beautiful keepsake book creates a meaningful gift.

Don't Forget the Details

In the week leading up to the baby shower, confirm RSVPs, finalise catering, gather decorations and prepare any activities. If you're purchasing gifts or styling items, order them early to avoid last-minute stress.

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the time celebrating the mum-to-be as she transitions into motherhood.
