All About Collis Curve Toothbrushes!

We are thrilled to be now stocking the amazing Collis Curve toothbrush. This toothbrush has a unique design that is useful for young children and children with disabilities or sensory issues. Read on to find out all about Collis Curve toothbrushes!

What is the Collis Curve Toothbrush?

The Collis Curve Toothbrush is a uniquely designed toothbrush that features two outer rows of curved bristles and a centre row of short straight bristles.

This three sided, curved toothbrush was invented by dentist, George Collis as he felt regular toothbrushes were difficult for some patients to use.

How does the Collis Curve Toothbrush work?

The two outer rows of curved bristles gently nestle their way between the tooth and the gumline to remove plaque and food debris from the sulcus.

This unique design enables front, back and top of each tooth to be cleaned at once, resulting in easier, quicker teeth brushing.

Who is the Collis Curve Toothbrush good for?

The Collis Curve toothbrush is particularly useful where mouth care is provided by a second person or the person brushing their teeth has difficulty with a regular toothbrush.

The Collis Curve Toothbrushes are perfect for use with:

  • Young children
  • Children who struggle with the sensory aspect of toothbrushing
  • Children with disabilities who have limited manual dexterity
  • Children who have difficulty with the motor planning required (Collis curve toothbrushes just need a simple back and forth movement)

How do you use the Collis Curve Toothbrush?

  • Place the Collis Curve toothbrush over the top of the lower front teeth. Using a short back and forth brushing motion, gradually progress to the back teeth on one side.
  • Re-position the brush over the lower front teeth and brush to reach the back teeth on the other side. Repeat for the upper teeth.
  • If necessary, tilt the brush from side-to-side as you brush, to ensure reaching the tooth surface at and below the gum margin.
  • Initially, bleeding from the gums may occur, indicating that plaque has not been removed previously from this area. If bleeding persists, contact a dental professional.
  • To clean any areas you may have missed, use the Collis Curve toothbrush as you would a straight-bristled toothbrush.
  • Clinical tests show the curved bristle to be more effective in massaging gums and removing plaque than the conventional straight bristle.

"I have a special needs child and our dentist suggested this toothbrush for a better clean. I recently started having my other child use one as he wasn’t doing a great job brushing. They work great and my kids prefer them over regular brushes." ~ Cynthia A
